Cortego Rebel: give them a bike they can't break

If you, like me, are involved in designing and building bicycles on a daily basis, you know one thing: there is no tougher test for a bicycle than a boy between the ages of 8 and 13.

I see it every day. Bikes aren't "parked," they're put down. Curbs aren't avoided, they're taken off. A forest path isn't an obstacle, it's an invitation. And when it rains? Then people actually ride faster through the puddles.

We designed the Cortego Rebel (24 & 26 inch) with exactly that image in mind.

This isn't just any bike. This is our answer to parents' questions: "Do you also have a bike that can withstand a knock or two? One that doesn't rattle after three months?"

Yes, we do. This is the Rebel.

What makes the Rebel so "Boy-proof"?

When our design team sat down to discuss the Rebel, we had one key word in mind: robust . Everything about this bike is designed to withstand a beating, without sacrificing its cool factor.

  • The Frame as a Rock: It all starts with the frame. This isn't your average city bike frame. The design is inspired by mountain bikes (MTBs). The thicker tubes and strong geometry allow the frame to absorb impacts without flinching. It doesn't just look tough; it is tough.
  • Made for Cross (kind of): We know guys push the limits. That's why we often equip the Rebel with wider tires with more tread. Perfect for grip on the asphalt, but also strong enough for that shortcut through the grass or along a muddy path.
  • No Unnecessary Frills: Boys like clarity. No complicated bells and whistles, just components that actually work. A powerful coaster brake (often with an additional handbrake), bright LED lighting, and a chain guard that protects the chain from anything you can kick into it.

But... Does He Also Have a Reciter?

This is an interesting one. While a front carrier is a must for girls' bikes, we see boys are divided. Half find it super handy for that heavy school bag, while the other half find it "not cool" and prefer to hang the bag on their back.

That's why the Rebel is so versatile. We have models with a sturdy, minimalist front carrier (often narrower and sleeker than the Cargo), perfect for school bags. But we also have the "barebones" Rebel, which looks like a pure, sporty street bike .

The choice is yours. Want practical convenience for school? Choose the Rebel with a rack. Want the lightest and most maneuverable bike possible for riding around the neighborhood with friends? Then go for the version without.

De Stijl: More Street, Less School

Where the Cargo is 'stylish' and 'hip', the Rebel is mainly cool and powerful .

This is reflected in the styling. We don't use soft pastel shades, but rather powerful, deep colors. Think matte black, army green, or deep dark blue, often combined with bright accent colors (such as fluorescent yellow or red) in the logos or on the rims.

It gives the bike an active, energetic look. This isn't a bike for leisurely touring; it's a bike for adventure.

The Perfect Size for the Big Leap

Just like our girls' bikes, the 24 and 26 inch Rebel is the perfect 'growth bike'.

  • The 24-inch Rebel: This is the ideal introduction to a serious bike. Perfect for boys who dominate primary school (approx. 8-10 years old, clothing size 134-146). It's agile enough for learning to do tricks, yet stable enough for those first solo rides to school.
  • The 26-inch Rebel: The ultimate first-year bike for boys. It looks like a full-size MTB, but its frame size is perfectly proportioned (approx. 10-13 years, clothing size 146-158). It's slightly lower and more compact than a 28-inch bike, giving you maximum control.

Our Commitment: Safety and Fun

As a Cortego employee, I can guarantee you one thing: no matter how cool and rebellious the bike looks, we never compromise on safety.

The brakes are powerful and reliable. The lights ensure your son is always seen, even if he forgets it's getting dark. And the frame is built to withstand forces, so you, as a parent, know it's safe.

We build the Cortego Rebel because we believe boys need a bike that can handle their energy. A bike that encourages them to play outside, push boundaries, and become independent.

A bike that can take a beating? That's an understatement. This is the Rebel.
